This is the part that fascinates me.
Almost every consultant I work with already has a competitive advantage. Most have simply never spotted it or stopped seeing it.
We're all too close to our own story. The experiences that shaped us feel ordinary because we've lived them. The questions we naturally ask seem obvious because they've become second nature. The things clients repeatedly thank us for are dismissed as "just how I work." The career move we apologise for can turn out to be the very thing that makes us memorable.
I remember working with one client who mentioned she'd spent years in investment banking before moving into sustainability consulting. She almost skipped over it because, to her, it didn't seem relevant anymore.
To me, it changed everything.
She wasn't simply another sustainability consultant. She understood sustainability through a commercial lens. She could speak the language of business leaders, balance purpose with commercial reality, and help organisations make decisions that were both sustainable and commercially viable.
That wasn't a new idea we'd invented together. It had always been there. She just hadn't spotted it.
This is why I often describe myself as part strategist, part detective, part coach. I'm not looking for clever marketing angles or manufactured points of difference. I'm listening for the experiences you've stopped noticing, the patterns you've overlooked, and the perspectives you've come to take for granted.
Because hidden inside your experience is a thread. A unique way of thinking. A perspective that only you can bring. One that has been there all along, but has become invisible because you've lived it every day.
Once we uncover that thread, everything else becomes easier. Your positioning becomes clearer. Your messaging becomes more natural. Your offers make more sense. And your marketing starts to feel less like something you're forcing and more like a genuine expression of the value you already bring.
